I had no idea what to do. I was lost, I was beaten. She knew I was powerless to stop her from using me to get my Master. I would of considered myself expendable and killed myself by now to save my Master. He knew more and was better equipped to protect the land then me, an apprentice not even half way through the training. But that was when those thoughts where true. Now I was just one year away from completing my training and my Master did not have the years or time left to train other apprentice. “Get up boy; we go to your Master now. He has been searching the swamp for ye all night” The witch said and pulled me up from the ground. “No funny business ye hear me boy” she opened her mouth. I noticed the Gelbi root in the back. The root was deadly even by the tiniest bit. If I did something she bit down and we’d both be dead. No magic that me or Master knew or practiced could bring back the dead. That was an act of the dark and only necromancers could or would bring back the dead.
We had killed a very powerful necromancer on our last trip up to north to the Old City. He had enslaved the whole city using the power he gains from bringing back the dead. A necromancer’s powers increase every time they bring back a person from the dead. That person’s soul turns into magical energy for the necromancer to use. We use that same magic but since our bodies get exhausted from the process we are limited. If we push past this exhaustion, our bodies will become damage. In the most severe cases we can lose years of our lives. Take away exhaustion; the soul would not know when to stop producing magic. And since it cannot lose more years on it’s life, its power becomes infinite. Of course the strength of the magic is only equivalent to the person before they died. That is why necromancers tend to need more dead bodies and souls, to increase the strength of their spells. The necromancer we fought had 200 souls at his possession. But even at that level of power his strength was not enough for the combination of ours. We are Spooks and have an affinity for magic. We are able to covert very small amounts of magic into powerful attacks. We are sometimes called amplifiers because of this ability. If a Spook has been trained well he can share this ability with those around him, amplifying their powers and his own. With two Spooks constantly amplifying each other’s powers we can increase our strengths exponentially. Of course there is a limit to this ability based on the Spooks or persons physical and magical capacity of maintaining such power. If you increase too quickly or too much and people or person you are affecting cannot handle it, they can die from the strain. This amplification ability it very hard to control even my Master has difficulty with it. “
Boy call out for your master” the witch moved behind me. I did as I was told. A part of me hoped he wouldn’t come. I didn’t want him to fall prey to her trap but what could I do.
